Hidamari No Tami ("sunny people")
My spouse just returned from a business trip in Hong Kong. This is one of the gifts he brought back for me. A Google search reveals that Hidamari No Tami means "sunny people" and it is made by Tomy Japan. The head bobs up and down, like he is perpetually eating the apple in his hands. In the front is a solar panel (black bar), which powers the head.
Behind him is Flip Flap, also acquired from Hong Kong but on a different trip. Like Hidamari, Flip Flap is solar-powered with the leaves moving up and down. I've left Flip Flap in its hard case to protect it from dust (and the cat).
Both come in a variety of styles/colors, if you want to make a collection out of either. Both are made by Tomy, both allow you to mount a card for messages (like maybe "Don't fall asleep"), and both are reeally mesmerizing and soothing.
